Good and Worse Things

“The worse things in life come free to us” – A line from Ed Sheeran’s “A Team”

It’s hard to know where to begin with this. From which angle should I approach this? But I know it’s true, don’t you think so? Nothing of value is ever for free. You always gotta work for it.

But you never have to work for other things – things that don’t matter, things that just come effortlessly.

Temptation, for example. You never have to work for it; it comes naturally. Too naturally – for it seems that it’s always there, looming in the background, waiting for the perfect moment to come from behind and catch you when you’re most vulnerable.

But determination, that we’ve got to work for. And love, and friendship, and happiness: all these things (and more!) we’ve got to work for.

But that’s a good thing. Because the worse things in life come free to us. So maybe it’s a good thing that we’ve got to work at some things. Because then, we’ll know that they’re for sure, good.
