PPLILOVE: Devonte McGlashin

May 23, 2013

(People I Love is a segment in which I feature one person — on his/her birthday — who is near and dear to my heart. I guess you can say this is an open-birthday card.)

May 23rd is Devonté McGlashin’s birthday!

You will never know what the message reads on his phone…. Never! That is between the two of us.

Long story short: I love this dude.

We have been bffls since high school. Well, not really, but close enough. I mean the guy laughs at all of my jokes! Really, he does! That’s probably why I like hanging with him so much; it’s a major ego-boost for a funny girl  — both definitions of funny apply here — like me… except I’m probably not that very funny (in a haha kind of way). Amusing, yes. Cute, of course. Funny? Hm…. But anyway, enough about me!

Devonté is just the sweetest boy you’ll ever meet. He says the funniest things and whenever we’re hanging out, we can’t stop laughing at each other. It’s true! Ask him yourself. I love him to death; a text message from him is always a sentence ending with a dozen exclamation marks (and every now and then, the exclamation marks are followed by a dozen question marks). He is always enthusiastic about everything and his level of optimism matches mine! Finally! A person who is always happy just like I am! Or well, mostly. I just think we can’t help but be happy when we’re around each other because that’s how much we love each other. Really, the kid is my brother from another mother.

We were supposed to be roommates in September, but my mother’s fear of rapists being among my  friends have gotten the best of her. Oh well, c’est la vie. She may be able to stop us from living together, but she can’t stop us from hanging out together “all day, e’eryyydaayyyyy!”

Happy 20th birthday Devon! Welcome to ” the 2os club.” You will hate it, but I’m sure that you will love it even more. One more year and we can all go to Vegas together baby! Or Disney world.

That’s right. I am the best for remembering. And yep, that was WITHOUT Facebook reminding me. In your face all of you Facebook-birthday-wishers-who-rely-on-birthday-reminders.
