Lenny B.

August 1, 2013

Leonard Bernstein was just so cool– a musical genius of the 20th century!

And he was such a stud in his younger years.

Bernstein on Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony:

I am in awe.

Here is my favourite video with Bernstein conducting. It was actually the first video that introduced me to him. I smiled when I saw him dancing along to the music.

Haydn’s “Surprise” Symphony, No. 94 — do you know why people nicknamed it the “Surprise” Symphony? It’s because Haydn wrote in a sudden chord at the end of a long and slow passage in the second movement (Andante). This greatly surprised the audience!

Watch Lenny dance while he conducts! I love it!

Definitely going to go and read his biography (& this) now.
